On last minute notice, I decided to sign up for The LEONA DIVIDE 50 Mile Race in order to TEST myself & see if all of my #WalkAcrossAmerica training is paying off. I did look at the course info a few days before the race & the most prominent thing I noticed is that this race was taking place in the Mountains of Northern Los Angeles. Having very few running races under my belt & having never been a hiker or outdoor nature kind of guy, I had no idea what to expect, but with all of my training, (1,000 miles walked since January 2016) I felt confident that I would at least have a solid shot of finishing the race. I ran through the starting gate, turned right onto the main road, looked up, & realized IMMEDIATELY that this was going to rank right up there as the worst day of my life in regards to physical & mental toughness. I do not fear failure. Every time I go out walking, I leave everything I physically got on the road. The only way I continue to grow stronger is by constantly pushing my body past its physical limits with these walks. I do not plan on stopping until I am 100% confident in my abilities to Walk Across America in 45 days or less.
